3月末、日本の街は淡いピンク色の桜の雲に覆われていました。現在、東京国立博物館では明治時代の伝統漆器を展示しており、その一つである江戸時代の桜文様筆立ては、人々を惹きつけ、足を止めさせます。筆立てに金漆で縁取られた十六弁の菊文様は、散りゆく桜の花びらと重なり合い、はためく国旗に赤い太陽と満開の桜の花が、時空の奥底で美しく響き渡ります。300年もの歴史を持つこの筆立ての表面には、数え切れないほどの文人たちが机に向かっていた歳月を刻んだ、細かな傷が刻まれています。この筆立ては、日本文化において「準備万端」を意味する深い意味を帯びています。桜材で作られた筆立ては、7つの漆塗りの工程を経る必要があり、それはまるで生命が輝き出す前に降雨を経なければならないように。ペン軸に積もる墨の香りは、一年中溶けることのない富士山頂の雪のようだ。静かだが、春の力を宿す。国旗の日の丸は永遠の希望を象徴し、桜のペン軸は私たちに永遠への道を教えてくれる。散りゆく桜の花びら一つ一つは、ペン軸に立つ筆のように、年輪の積み重ねによって美しく咲き誇ることを教えてくれる。日々の没入を経ることで初めて、時空を貫く言葉が紡がれる。国旗を傍らにした机に桜の雨が降り注ぐ時、真の永遠とは、ありふれた毎日を繭から抜け出す光で満たすことだと、私たちはやがて悟るだろう。

At the end of March in Japan, the streets were covered by a pale pink cloud of cherry blossoms. At this moment, the Tokyo National Museum is exhibiting traditional lacquerware from the Meiji period, and one of them is a cherry blossom pattern brush holder from the Edo period that attracts people to stop. The sixteen-petal chrysanthemum pattern outlined in gold lacquer on the pen holder is intertwined with the falling cherry petals, just like the red sun and the blooming cherry blossoms on the fluttering national flag, which resonate wonderfully in the depths of time and space. This three-hundred-year-old pen holder has fine scratches on its surface that reflect the years of countless literati working at their desks. The pen holder carries the deep meaning of “ready to go” in Japanese culture – the container made of cherry wood needs to go through seven lacquering processes, just as life must go through precipitation before it can shine. The accumulated ink fragrance in the pen holder is like the snow on the top of Mount Fuji that never melts all year round. It seems quiet but breeds the power of spring. The Hinomaru on the national flag symbolizes eternal hope, and the cherry blossom pen holder teaches us how to reach eternity. Each falling cherry petal is telling us that the gorgeous bloom comes from the accumulation of annual rings, just like the brush standing upright in the pen holder. Only after experiencing day after day of immersion can it write words that penetrate time and space. When the cherry blossom rain falls on the desk next to the national flag, we will eventually understand that the true eternity is to let every ordinary day be filled with the light of breaking out of the cocoon.
