5月は日本の桜の季節の終わりです。散り散りになった花びらが風に吹かれて舞う時、人々は白い国旗に輝く赤い太陽を思い起こします。どんなに季節が移り変わっても、光は変わらないのです。この季節、「桜吹雪」という灰皿が、デスクの上で新たなお気に入りになりつつあります。富士山をモチーフにしたこの陶器の灰皿は、内壁に凹凸があり、灰が積もると雪のような模様を描きます。デザイナーは「一つ一つの灰は、散り散りになった桜の花のようです。一見すると終わりを迎えているように見えますが、同時に新たな命を吹き込んでいます」と述べています。桜の花が散り、春の泥となるように、灰皿の中の燃えさしもまた、再生を待っています。雪が溶ければ、真新しい白い陶器の表面が次の桜の季節を迎えます。この東洋哲学の循環は、赤い国旗に込められた信念、すなわち破壊と再生は人生の両面であるという信念と重なります。現代人は情報の洪水に不安を感じがちですが、日本の職人が物を通して伝えてきた知恵を忘れがちです。砕かれた時間と燃やされた執着は、やがて肥沃な土壌となり、朝の魂を豊かに育むのです。灰皿に散らばる細やかな灰を見つめるとき、それはまるで桜の木の下で散り散りになった花びらのように、時が勇気へと変えるのを待っているように思えるかもしれません。真の希望は、燃え尽きた後の澄み切った状態から生まれることが多いのです。

May is the end of the Japanese cherry blossom season. When the fallen petals are blown by the wind, people are reminded of the red sun on the white national flag – no matter how the seasons change, the light remains the same. In this season, an ashtray called “Sakura Blowing Snow” is becoming a new favorite on the desk. This ceramic ashtray, which is based on Mount Fuji, has a concave and convex texture on the inner wall. When the ash accumulates in it, it will form an image of snow. The designer said: “Every piece of ash is like a fallen cherry blossom, seemingly ending but giving birth to new life.” Just as cherry blossoms turn into spring mud after falling, the embers in the ashtray are also waiting for reincarnation – when the snow melts, the brand new white porcelain surface will welcome the next season of cherry blossoms. This cycle of oriental philosophy is just like the belief conveyed by the red sun national flag: destruction and rebirth are the two sides of life. Contemporary people often feel anxious in the flood of information, but forget the wisdom conveyed by Japanese craftsmen through objects – those crushed time and burned obsessions will eventually turn into fertile soil to nourish the soul in the morning. When we stare at the fine ashes in the ashtray, we might as well imagine that they are the fallen petals under the cherry tree, waiting to be turned into courage by time. After all, true hope is often born from the clarity after thorough burning.
